Bruce Willis’ Daughter Rumer Breaks Down In Tears as She Lays Bare Toll of Being a ‘Single Mom’—10 Months After Moving to Idaho

Bruce Willis‘ 37-year-old daughter, Rumer, shared a very candid glimpse into her life as a single mother, admitting that she’d been forced to retreat to the woods near her Idaho home to have “a good cry” after the stress of parenting began to take its toll.

Rumer, who relocated to rural Idaho from Los Angeles at the start of 2025, split from her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, in August 2024—just over one year after they welcomed daughter, Louetta, together.

Five months after announcing her separation from her partner, Rumer shared another major life update, when she revealed that she and Louetta, now 2, were quitting their live in California to relocate to Idaho, where her mother, actress Demi Moore, has owned a home for more than 20 years.

However, while Rumer has shared several idyllic glimpses into her new life since the move, her most recent Instagram update saw her revealing a more emotional side to single parenting, featuring a clip of the mom of one walking through the woods surrounding her dwelling, while wiping away her tears.

“Just had a good cry in the woods,” she wrote in the caption of the clip. “Some days being a single mom is hard. She is not hard (ever) but some days, doing everything alone can be.”

Grinning at the camera, she then added: “Wow and just realized I have food in my teeth… really winning today.”

In a question and answer session hosted on her Instagram account hours later, Rumer also admitted that the dreary Idaho weather was starting to have an impact on her emotions, revealing: “I’m definitely a summer girl … it’s kind of dreary and I feel like I’m the queen of feeling a little bit of seasonal affected disorder.”

She also addressed criticism of the fact that she employs a nanny to help her with the care of Louella, insisting that “a lot of people have help in some way or another, whether that be from their mother-in-law, parents, daycare or whatever it may be.”

“I don’t think it’s really good to shame anybody when you don’t know their situation,” she continued. “I don’t have a fulltime nanny, what I do have is my nanny from when I was a little girl, Madison.

“She started with my family when I was 3 years old and now, if I am going on a trip or doing a film … she comes to help me out. Sometimes she’ll come to Idaho and hang out with me here for a week or two, and help me out with Lou. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

Rumer went on to point out that she has “three fulltime careers between singing, acting, and [her] website,” explaining that, because her daughter is not yet in school, that leaves her with just “three hours in the day” to get all of her work done.

“Sometimes I need a little bit of extra support, especially as a single parent,” she added.

When asked whether she is currently dating anyone, Rumer confirmed that she is single—but revealed that she does feel ready to start a relationship with someone new, having spent the last 18 months focusing her energies on “work and being a mom.”

Rumer previously opened up about her decision to relocate to Idaho—where she and her sisters were largely raised, away from the glare of the spotlight—explaining in a January Instagram post that she was “ready for a new adventure.”

However, she confessed that the move was bittersweet, particularly as it meant saying goodbye to her longtime Los Angeles home, where she had lived for close to 14 years.

“This house and I have been through it all. I tore it down to the studs and rebuilt it with my first boyfriend,” she wrote, while sharing a video tour of the property.

“I’ve lived many different lives within these walls, tried on every version of myself (and every hair color imaginable), rearranged furniture more times than I can count, and even redesigned the kitchen before Lou was born.

“It’s been the scene of dance parties, movie nights, backyard antics, arts and crafts, and mind-expanding, belly-aching, tear-streaming mushroom journeys. I’ve felt excruciating heartbreak here and the thrill of new crushes. I’ve cried oceans of happy and sad tears, gotten ready for first dates, had great sex, not so great sex, and everything in between.

“I was pregnant in this house, gave birth in the living room, and for the past two years, I’ve raised my daughter here.

“And now, it feels like the house is finally ready to let me go. So, with the deepest love and gratitude, Lou and I say goodbye to Casablanca and L.A. and set off for a new adventure.”

While she expressed her desire for her home to pass to someone else who would “fill it with as much love, laughter, joy, and mischief” as she had, property records indicate that Rumer has not yet put the property on the market.

The singer and actress first took over ownership of the home in 2018, according to reports, when it was signed over to her by her mother’s ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher, nine years after he purchased it for $971,500.

According to People, Rumer and Ashton had previously entered into a co-ownership agreement that granted them each a 50% share of the dwelling, however legal documents filed in August 2018 indicated that this arrangement had come to an end, and that Rumer was taking full ownership.

“All debt owing under the note, deed of trust and any related loan documents has been deemed paid and satisfied in full,” the legal filing stated.

When Rumer announced that she was leaving Los Angeles, she did not reveal where she and Louetta were moving to—however she later confirmed in an August post on her Instagram account that they had settled down in Idaho.

In October, she expressed her gratitude for her new home, writing on social media that she and Louetta were “so in love” with their life there, adding: “Idaho, you have our hearts.”

She later admitted that she was overjoyed to be sharing her “childhood home” with her daughter, writing: “So grateful for the beautiful life we’ve made here, what a gift to watch my daughter grow, discover, and delight in my childhood home. Every day just keeps getting better.”

The Willis-Moore family has long had a close connection to the state of Idaho, where both Demi and Bruce have owned multiple properties over the years.

Demi’s personal retreat is a stunning lakehouse in Aspen Lakes, ID, which boasts six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, as well as a 10.5-acre parcel of land.

It is where the actress spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic, surrounded by her loved ones—and it continues to be the place where she and her family gather for holidays and special occasions.

Demi purchased the property in 2000 following her split from “Die Hard” star Bruce, with whom she shares her three daughters—and whom she has been helping through his battle with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia since he was diagnosed in 2022.

Although it is unclear how much she paid for the home, Realtor.com® estimates it is now worth more than $6 million.

Property records show that Demi has purchased multiple properties surrounding her primary residence in the state—and it may well be that Rumer is currently using one of those as her personal dwelling, while hanging on to her Los Angeles home to use whenever she needs to be in California for work.

Bruce followed in his ex-wife’s footsteps many years ago when he purchased multiple Idaho properties, including a ranch in Hailey and cabins in Ketchum.

In 2012, he sold the cabins for $3.9 million and let go of his ranch for $5.5 million in 2018.
