“Married to Real Estate” stars Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson have confessed that they “burst out laughing” after discovering that their HGTV show was canceled as part of the home-renovation network’s bombshell program purge earlier this year.
The couple, who announced the news of their series’ axing in June, shared more details about their reaction to the shocking news in an interview with People, revealing their immediate thoughts at learning their show had been given the chop after four seasons.
Sherrod and Jackson, who began showing off their renovation skills on screen back in 2022, previously explained on Instagram that they received the news about the cancelation just moments after arriving back in the U.S. following a family vacation in the Mediterranean.
And while the couple admit they were devastated by the news, they told People that they couldn’t help but find the funny side in the cancelation, which they describe as “insane.”
The home design experts said that they immediately went into “positive mode” and tried to seek the upside in their situation, noting that there was a particular irony in the fact that they received the news after returning from vacation—having experienced a similar incident after a trip to Costa Rica in 2024.
“We came back on this amazing high and I lie to you not, we were still at the airport loading our bags in our car when management and the agency called us to tell us about the show. It was insane,” Sherrod recalled.
The moment closely mirrored another devastating return from an anniversary trip the previous year, when the duo landed back in the U.S. to discover that their production team had been cleared out.

“Literally, Mike and I looked at each other and burst out laughing because it was like, ‘What are the chances of us coming back from vacation the second time and getting this kind of news?'” Sherrod shared.
“One of the first things we said is maybe we shouldn’t go on vacation anymore. Every time we went on vacation, we would get mollywhopped with something.”
While the couple insists they found as much humor in the situation as they could, they admitted that the news did come with “disappointment and hurt.”
The reality TV stars were among the first HGTV experts to announce that their show had been axed as part of a multiprogram clearout by the network, which began in the spring.
“Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with ‘Married to Real Estate,'” the couple, who wed in 2010 and share three children, revealed in a June Instagram post.
They conceded that the situation was hurtful but were quick to express their gratitude for the team that worked so hard on their four-season series.
“While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons,” they went on.
“Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive. And most of all-grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and to each other).”
The husband and wife duo then insinuated that there were other details they are not yet able to share with viewers, before branding the cancellation a “blessing in disguise.”
“There’s more to say, and we’ll share soon. But for now, know this: not all setbacks are what they seem. Some blessings show up in disguise. We’ve been here before. We’ll keep counting those blessings—and keep it moving. Stay tuned,” they added.
The couple captioned the post, “Sometimes GOD will rip you out of a situation to set you up for your next!”

In December 2024, Sherrod actually opened up about the toll that the couple’s filming schedule had taken on her home life, admitting that—while she was busy transforming properties on the screen—her own abode was in a less-than-perfect state.
“Unfortunately, mine is a mess right now,” she told Realtor.com. “I’ve got three stacks of dirty clothes sitting right in the middle of my bedroom waiting for me this weekend. You know that saying ‘The cobbler’s kids have no shoes?’ I’m always designing clients’ homes, out showing them homes, or helping to create and renovate their dream homes.”
She added that she was focusing on prioritizing her own wellbeing in a bid to ensure that she remains fit and healthy for many years to come, particularly for the sake of her children.
“I just saw a statistic that said people that get less than five hours of sleep per night are actually reducing their lifespan. I can’t remember it exactly, but it was like you’re taking a year off of your life for every year that you’re not getting a good night’s sleep, so I want to be around for my kids,” she shared.
“I think many mothers can relate to this: We put everybody first and then wind up taking care of ourselves in the wee hours of the night or morning, and that’s why we’re not getting enough sleep. But then compound that with the television show, and compound that with running companies, and then also with being premenopausal.”
Over the course of the past three years, the HGTV series aired 44 episodes and garnered over 16.6 million views in one season, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.
The couple announced the news of the fourth season in February; however, the series released a mere 12 episodes before getting axed.
“Married to Real Estate” is produced by 51 Minds Entertainment.
Before boasting their talents on “Married to Real Estate,” Sherrod hosted HGTV “Flipping Virgins” from 2015 to 2018.
The parents and real estate pros previously worked as blind judges on Season 2 of the channel’s “Rock the Block” in 2021. They appeared once again on Season 3 and took home a win.
